Great strides for local junior Trials rider

Cayman National have been delighted to provide sponsorship for local Trials rider, Owen Chestnut whilst he completed in both the British and European Youth Trails championships during the course of 2019.

During the summer months, he rode in the final rounds of the European Championship in France and Czech Republic during August.  He also competed in the final rounds of the British Championships in Yorkshire, Scotland and Derbyshire.

At the end of August, Owen was invited to ride a one-off event in Oxfordshire called the Super Trial. This is a tough event designed to showcase the top riders in Britain, both youth and adults alike.   He said “It's like no other trial; I absolutely loved riding this event.  It was probably my favourite competition of the year and I was really pleased to finish in 6th place”.

Owen who is 15 years of age, reflects on his achievements this year, “In the 2019 British Championship, I finished 6th overall in the B Class, in a very competitive field of 23 riders. During the season, any one of about 10 riders were able to challenge for a podium position. I rode consistently and was happy to finish the season where I did.”

He went on to say, “In the European Championship, I finished 18th overall in a field of 24 riders, 6 of whom including myself were British. During the early part of the year, with frequent trips to competitions in the UK, I was able to improve my level and I'm really proud to be placed top 6 in Britain and top 20 in Europe.”

Owen has also had the support of his family who were able to share in his successes and commendable accomplishments whilst travelling together and competing across Europe and the UK.  He has made new life-long friends and gained fantastic experience riding at European level.

Training continues in earnest during the winter months, as Owen now sets his mind to move up an age category in the British Championship to A class and with the aim of taking a place on the podium in 2020.  He is also determined to get close to the top 10 positions during the 2020 European Championships as well as completing his GCSE exams, which all adds up to a very busy year ahead.

We wish Owen continued success in the 2020.
